With all due respect Rick, I wonder what was the specific source of the quote from Edward R. Murrow?? Many such references to quotations from Edward R. Murrow as you cited go back to the 1950’s and the era of McCarthyism and the Red Scare.. At that time, Murrow was the leading broadcaster for CBS News and hosted a weekly television show called “See It Now” which attacked Senator Joseph McCarthy for investigating communists supporters in the US government.. Murrow’s reports eventually brought down Senator McCarty in a cloud of contradictions..
As cited in his own book, “Edward R. Murrow and the Time of his Time”, Murrow specifically stated on March 7,1954 that “No one man can terrorize a whole nation unless we are his accomplices”.. This direct quotation may be found in the CBS television archives and as I said is quoted in his book..
Today it has as much meaning for our Bahamas as it did for America way back then and even now.. Perhaps Edward R. Murrow did make references to a government of wolves but his words on the March 7th “See It Now” program are what he is best remembered for as America’s first television investigative journalist..

    Thanks Tradewinds.
I’m not sure where the quote comes from but, other people have made similar statements of course.
However, if citizens are not vigilant, governments have a tendency to over reach to be sure.

Rick.. Ed Murrow could have not said it any better.. You should have in broadcasting my friend.. Free and honest debate will lead to truth and as a wise man once said the truth will make you free.. To attribute sayings and statements may be meaningful for understand, but it is not the truth when we know and have a man’s exact words to inspire us.. I know that Edward R. Murrow’s life as a broadcast journalist was devoted to broadcasting the truth no matter where the truth may be uncovered and found..
Sadly in this day and age truth and integrity are waning as a “cult of the personality” is taking political control over many of the nations of the world.. Truth and honor does not matter as it once did.. We are becoming the “accomplices” in the words of Edward R. Murrow.. If we don’t seek out the truth, then we are the accomplices to the desecration of our most sacred values of liberty and freedom.. VERI TAS
