On the night table: Endurance by F. A. Worsley

Rick Lowe

Endurance One of my closest friends wants to take a trip to the South Pole and I've volunteered (probably crazy but there might be an opportunity for some neat photos of penguins etc).

And on a recent holiday to Canada I mentioned this to another of my dearest friends and he recommended we read Endurance, by F. A Worsley.

If you're not familiar with the story, Mr. Worsley was the Captain of the HMS Endurance which was the first boat Sir Ernest Shackelton took on an epic adventure to the South Pole in 1914. The book was originally published in 1931.

So while on holiday I managed to read the first 100 pages, but had to leave the book behind.

However, all is not lost I managed to order a copy through Logos Bahamas and it arrived Wednesday, just in time to finish the saga while we wait for Hurricane Irene to pass and its aftermath.

By the way I also ordered a copy for my friend, but I'm not sure it will deter him.

Oh, order your copy of Endurance here…
