Over the weekend a family member sent a flyer from BTC outlining new rate changes – removing $0.18 per minute on cellular calls to the Family Islands.

The other convenience mentioned was the ability to make calls on your mobile phone to any number within The Bahamas by dialing the 7, 10 or 11 numbers of the phone you're calling.

But what I think the best announcement of all is that BTC will sell or offer franchises for their retail stores to Bahamian entrepreneurs. They expect 75% of these stores to have local ownership.

Let's hope that some Bahamians take advantage of this potential opportunity.

I'm also looking forward to G4 and other technology, a public share offering and the eventual opening up of the market to other competitors.

A good start so far though. Positive signs indeed.
