We should be able to disagree without vitriol. Shouldn't we?
As I understand it, FaceBook is a social networking site where people who share things in common – family, friends, business associates, former school mates or people that might befriend you for reasons of their own.
However, many times I venture into "conversations" on someone's Facebook Page, another person, or even the host of the discussion, chimes in with some form of insult, unless one is agreeing with them of course.
Maybe people are just letting off steam and are not interested in solutions, but what's the point of that?
However, it appears that with some people, genuine discussion has gone the way of the Dodo bird. Many times these conversations on Facebook become a "Pointless Internet Argument Forum", as one wag put it in this video…
I must admit, it's difficult not to respond in kind when people make nasty or rude comments, but this gets us no where and offers no solutions in those cases where opinions differ. Can't we agree to disagree without the vitriol?
Invective might be fun, but it serves no purpose other than to attempt to cut a conversation/discussion off.
Maybe we should all step back and consider the following Rational Discussion Flowchart when a conversation takes a turn for the worse?

Simple solution is to do as I did. Shut your facebook DOWN! People will write things on FB that they would not tell anyone face to face. When filthy language became the norm for some who had access to my page I decided that I had seen enough. Funny thing is I dont miss it.
I agree Rick, and Jack, and for this very reason I never joined on!
I am an organic animal, based in this reality, and while the internet is proving to be an extrordinary resource, is is also fraught with danger, misinformation, and some generally bad ideas.
I find it interesting from the point of view that I was taught discretion, modesty and to value the privacy of others and my own, but this medium seems to promote wanton flagrancy!
