An historic day in The Bahamas Three cheers for the FNM on finally privatising BTC

Rick Lowe

It's been over a decade but today history was made with the government finally privatising the public phone company, BTC, by selling 51% to Cable & Wireless.

As expected the vote was 22 Yes and 18 No. Every Opposition MP voted against.

Today marks a positive new beginning for The Bahamas.

Which government albatross is next? BEC? Bahamasair? Education? There's so many to choose from.

I'm not one for complimenting governments as a rule, it's easier to criticise bad public policy, but this deserves a hip, hip, hooray!

  1. Agreed Rick they got this one right. Put all the others in a hat and start picking. Knock them off one by one, while at the sametime shortening the time frame to privatise.

It’s seem to me a good move what your government did. Is this private cie a Bahama cie?
How is doing the popularity of FNM since this sale. What are your opinion for 2012 elections in the Bahamas? Do you think your country will go more FNM, libertarian right, or will go toward PLP progressive, left wing government.? Which most Occident country are going (US with Obama, and Canada who was suppose to have election in 2012 but the leftist make a coalition in the Chamber to have an election in May 2011) Hope for my country that Harper will win with majority otherwise we are will going down the drain with the others party’s which are socialist party.Which mean increase in taxes, more state control etc..
I will like to have our opinion on your country and how you see the future in your country? Is your government is against the NWO, totalitarian?
Do you expect an increase in taxes, how is your economy doing.
Thanks for the time if you answer. And sorry if my English is not perfect my first language is french.
I’m looking to go live in Abaco that’s why I’m trying to find out what’s going on in your country before make my move.
