I took the plunge and Registered but, why vote?

Rick Lowe

Well I've taken the plunge and registered.

But as Dr. Russ Roberts asks in this post… "Why Vote?"

He notes that; "Why people vote has long fascinated both economists and political scientists. The fascination is straight forward. Voting is costly, it takes time. The probability that your vote will influence the outcome of an election is basically zero or very close. So why vote?"

So I ask you, why do we vote?

We vote under the illusion that it is the deciding action, charting a nations course.
We were also raised to believe in exercising our right to vote, lest it be taken away.
At this point I have not registered, but I suppose I should. After all it is possible the stars will align, fish will fall from the sky and a decent candidate will appear!
I have come to view the whole mess as a charade foisted on a public who expect no better than those we vote in provide.
Is one better than the other? Only if stabbing is a more acceptable end than shooting.
Only if one has a prettier skirt to cling to, if one is into that.
The power assumed is enourmous, and largely responsible for the systemic decay we are forced to contend with.
The Authority under rule of law, and the restraint attched thereto long forgotten.
Our benchmark for good Governance is buried under mud.
