ORGANISED labour is supposed to be about defending the right of a worker to wages, benefits and job conditions that are a fair reflection of their effort and productivity.
Historically, trade unionism has represented an attempt to balance the scales of exertion and reward for the average worker, often in the face of a ruthless and selfish employer class.
Local union leaders would have us believe their opposition to the BTC deal is part of this struggle – that David-like, they are fighting to stop the foreign Goliath Cable and Wireless (CWC) from trampling the little man.
