Last night was quite special. We got to enjoy the last evening at Doongalik Studios celebrating the life and music of Joseph Spence and Tony McKay (Exuma).
Mr. Spence’s neice sang a couple “wake” songs for us and she was just great.
We also had some reminiscing by a friend of the late great Tony McKay. I regret that I can’t remember his name. I think it was Mr. Bain, but I stand to be corrected.
The highlight of the event was a brief “interview” by Charles Carter of Andrew Jones, a long time admirer and friend of Tony McKay.
And then Andrew Jones and Spirit House played a couple acoustic numbers, starting out with Exuma’s “We Rushing”.
Then it was on to Crazy Johnny’s to enjoy 25 North. A local band of professionals, that spend their free time jamming under the neat name of the 25th Parallel North that runs through The Bahamas of course.
They were great fun and most enjoyable.
Then came the highlight of the evening, Andrew Jones and Spirit House live!
All I can say is WOW! We were blown away. Somehow, somebody has to get a live recording of those folks.
Anyone care to join me to see if we can make a live recording a reality?
I can’t remember the last time we got home after 2:00am in the morning and waking up with a bit of headache. And it was all worth every minute.

Rick – I could not agree with you more. Johnny Brown made the comment to me the following morning that Spirithouse’s 2nd set was “by far” the most incredible and energetic set of live music he has ever been witness to in The Bahamas….and that says a lot from someone who has played in a band for the past 20 years and is the proprietor of Crazy Johnny’s All Rock & Roll Club. I do have some video of the night and, whereas the sound quality is good, the video quality leaves much to be desired because it was so dark. Will post to YouTube if authorised to do so by Spirithouse and will provide you with the links. Thanks again for coming to the show. It certainly gave 25N some impetus to raise the bar the next time it plays.
