Hillsdale College has an excellent monthly newsletter called Imprimis and the September issue is a knock out.
It's adapted from a speech Shlaes made in February 2010 at Hillsdale College.
The following excerpt from the newsletter stood out for me, and if you've read her book, The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression it would strike you as well. It's so descriptive of how the US Government actually prevented the economic growth necessary to help turn the economy around.
"…and during the Great Depression they weren’t allowed to do that driving. They weren’t allowed to compete and accumulate wealth—or, in terms of Monopoly, to place a house or hotel on their property. Instead they were sidelined…"'

One can only live in hope that The Bahamas Government will catch on to the errors being made that are preventing the growth necessary to help turn The Bahamas Economy around.
Rick.. The Forgotten Man is required reading for anyone that is concerned about the era of the great depression and the current economic direction that the United States is aggressive pursuing.. In sum, this book sets forth the thesis that both President Hoover(R) and President Roosevelt(D) pursued economic policies that significantly prolonged the great depression.. The uncertainty of New Deal economic policies and the lack of consumer confidence resulted an extended period of depression and massive unemployment.. The failed economic policies of the Roosevelt administration are today similar in many ways to the policies that are being pursued by the Obama administration.. The parallels between these two periods in economic history are striking.. If history is a guide, than it is more that apparent that Obama administration is following a course which will lead to economic self-destruction.. Amity Shlaes’ excellent book is both readable and a colorful warning about policy implications which will impact not only the future of the United States but the Bahamas as well..
