Last night my wife and I enjoyed a great evening at Doongalik Studios to learn about the life and times of Messrs Joseph Spence and Tony McKay.

The evening started with a chance to review an excellent exhibition of historical information about the artists curated by Ms. Orchid Burnside, the daughter of Mr. Jackson and Mrs. Pam Burnside.

The evening started with Mr. Fred Ferguson playing some of the music of Joseph Spence and explaining his playing style.

Mr. Ferguson was followed by Mr. Charles Carter who took us back to 1958 when the Smithsonian recorded some of the work of Mr. Spence and other Bahamians.

This was followed by Harrington "Zippy" Frazier and two of his sons singing in traditional Bahamian "gospel" style.

All in all it was a fabulous evening. Congratulations to everyone involved.

By the way, the events continue for the next three Thursday's at 6:00pm.
