Christopher D. Lowe
"We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force." Ayn Rand
Think of the micromanagement of our Government, Prime Minister and other ministers, senior civil servants, the permissions required citizens to do the most simple and necessary of human endeavors:
To Live.
For a Government to claim to be the defenders of a minority, be they poor, immigrant, or children, they must protect the rights of the smallest minority:
The individual is the smallest minority.
"Reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it. Do not count on them. Leave them alone." Ayn Rand
We are all guilty of turning off our individual minds; we have instead embraced the irrational, in the name of the general welfare.
But, what when they will not leave the rational man alone?
It is the rational man they fear, the man who does not become the victim giving his silent consent, but the man who speaks and acts to principals, not allegiance to another man.
"Potentially, a government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims." Ayn Rand
It is exactly this force that we as citizens of the Bahamas face, the enemy within, who would subjugate our lives to their use and purpose, and demand we apply our minds and productivity to their whim.
Government does not produce anything, but feeds itself on those who do:
Alms they may bestow on some have first been taken from others.
What happens when there are none left to pillage?
What then will Government take?
That which is left, all that will be left, individual life itself.
To validate themselves and their purpose, they must destroy all that is good, to leave no trace of a better way.
This is the Winter of discontent.. We are the subjects of the political elite.. We hope for change and the betterment of our country, but this hope only springs eternal.. Hope has lead only to greater destruction of our once proud people.. Governance by reason has given way to authoritarianism.. We are told who may represent the voice of the people but the people never can choose who this voice should be..
We shall never see Spring until our system of governance is reformed to reflect the true values of democracy and equal justice under law..
I have made up my mind, every time they put another bill on me,or put the business license up, or put national Insurance up, or put property tax up, I am going to let another staff member go.I have had enough, simple as that.It is past the time to take a stand against this pillaging, that is what it is pillaging. There are people all over the world that are in jail for doing what the government is doing to business in the Bahamas.I suggest the the goose that lays the golden egg for them is about to crop out & they had better stop all this heavy tax now. They could save a fortune by eliminating the $300.00 exemption, back it down to $100.00 .If they had the common sense do do things properly, they could fill the treasury. They seem to have the idea that all business’s are crooked, they must think that everyone thinks JUST LIKE THEM !
I agree DP, they will indeed tax and tax more in order to maintain THEIR level of existence.
They do what they do because they know no better.
It is the goose they’re killing, and bad mouthing, and accusing of the fraud that they acomplish so well, and at the taxpayers expense.
I’m with you C.Lowe.I have simply had enough.I think if enough businesses get together, we could apply some pressure, what else do we have. They are raping us on a daily basis. If we all do something together, it just might make the fools listen.
The real problem is that they have divided and conquered so well, and so many remain intimidated and ignorant of the law that alone can provide a measure of strength and protection.
Two Bahamians in a room, once they leave one is going to get the short end of the stick:
Three in the room, someone is already getting it!!
We are our own worst enemy, and that simple fact is leveraged against us.
So true C.Lowe
Very well said Mr. Lowe.
And DP, even the strongest of men, those who hold up the economy have to shrug sometimes. The most important thing for us to do is identify those amongest us who are able to carry the weight of the economy and when the time comes…Never falt those of us who shrug, for non of us know the burden that will break anothers grip…Rather we should be ready to work with free-able men and women in the future to rebuild the economy. I am not ready to shrug yet, but I know the day may come and I have prepared myself like D’Anconia in the novel.
We the voices of freedom, seem to be a small minority but our numbers are growing because the free-market is pushing people to now see what was previously accepted as normal to now see it for what it is. Let us help those who are just beginning to understand liberty to see it even clearer.
