The Mackinac Center in Michigan has been following up on the possibility that filmaker Michale Moore might receive a subsidy of $650,000 to $1,000,000 from the state for producing part of “Capitalism: A Love Story” there.

After berating corporate officials in his film, mocking them that he was there to get the taxpayer money back.

What makes it worse he complained at one point that international studios could get taxpayer money for doing what he reportedly might do.

As Mr. Jahr points out in this article for the Mackinac Center, “Sure, Moore says he plans to use the windfall to revitalize derelict theaters. It’s easy to be generous with other people’s money. If handled with the right PR effort, a gift might just take the spotlight off the inconsistency of a favored, well-heeled industry getting benefits from politicians at the expense of downtrodden taxpayers.”

Subsidies are no more than legalised theft, with governments taking taxpayer dollars to favour certain industries or people.

Kudos to Mackinac for keeping the heat on and giving Mr. Moore a taste of his own medicine.
