Columnist and fellow blogger, Adrian Gibson, has been raising some interesting discussion with his report cards of the job Cabinet Members appear, or don't appear to be doing.
I agree with many of his comments, but when did we get the idea that politicians are supposed to fix everything?
When we start to believe the political class has a magic wand that can instantly solve the myriad of problems we have here, it's time to take off our rose coloured glasses. Heck even Mr. Obama seems to have lost his mystical powers to solve everything.
After all, H.L. Menken told us in 1956 that; "Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule – and both commonly succeed, and are right."
I believe that all the problems we face are as a result of a collective societal breakdown. But, when all is said and done however, I know I'm a cynic about politics, and to quote Mencken again; "A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin."
