This time it's the traffic reversal.
Apparently Dr. Nottage is stirring the racial pot once again, suggesting that the government is ignoring the requests of "Over The Hill people" (read black Bahamians) with current traffic re-routing, while treating the "Bay Street merchants" (read white Bahamians) differently when the traffic was changed there a few years back.
If Dr. Nottage actually said those words or made that implication he should be ashamed of himself.
The difficulty of the Market Street and Blue Hill Road businesses not withstanding, when the traffic changes to Bay and Shirley Streets took place several years back, there were many businesses that were adversely impacted, and in fact, several businesses closed as a result of the traffic changes.
So why seek to stir up racial hatred again rather than offer up potential solutions for the traffic problems that beset all Bahamians, black, white or pumpkin yellow?
Obviously it's a lot easier to do that than to think these tough issues through.
How do we ever move our country forward when politico's can't move beyond the past? We've had Majority Rule since 1967, and the PLP has ruled over us for 30 of those forty three years.
Surely we should be able to present options for the traffic changes rather than rhetoric?
Frankly it's tiring.
I think the racism will be worse than ever, mainly because to do otherwise would mean a non too flattering self evaluation.

So, tomorrow is the great budget Communication,
I wonder if there is any doubt about what will result?
Higher duty(taxes) and higher N.I.B. “voluntary but mandatory contributions” already hitting us in stages.
I hear a self imposed pay cut for M.P.’s and the Prime Minister may be in the offering, but it will be paltry at best.
How about laying off on the people that pay taxes, people who are the economy, and if you’re ditching
the legalization of numbers, will you now enforce the law, the law that has existed all the while?
I do not know if I can stand to listen to it, but I suppose we should hear of our demise firsthand.
It might be old but it’s history!!! And sad thing is you can’t change it!!! Ya forefathers should have known that they were making history… Don’t blame the PLP, blame your forefathers for that sad part of all of our history!! You could get tired all you want, it will not change the facts!!
Even though I get angry when I hear them talk about it, I realize that facts are stubborn things… I complain but I realize that that won’t change until the next generation takes over.. Sad but true…
Yes OT, “OUR” forefathers on both sides of the Atlantic made history. There were two sides to the transaction. I have no issue with history, because, it is said, if we don’t remember it, we are doomed to repeat it. That part of history is regrettable for sure, but as you point out, we can’t change it.
However, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the traffic troubles we all face.
If “BJ” actually used the soapbox he had to say those things instead of offering useful alternatives, if in fact he has one or any suggestions, is, well a sad commentary on one of our country’s “leaders”.
In fact, what he is reported to have said is not true from what I remember.
There will always be a time and place to remember history, but when we are fighting so future generations might have a country we can be proud of, the message was pointless.
