Maybe it's too early for sarcasm about the water spout damage in Freeport, but…
Reports are that certain people are blaming the government for the deaths by a freak of nature yesterday in Grand Bahama.
Because there was no weather office in the town resulted in deaths by a water spout that came on shore is the allegation.
With all that is wrong in our country, if there was only a weather office in Freeport they could have prevented a freak storm! They would have been able to wrestle mother nature to the ground!
Then we have allegations that a radio host is encouraging labour unrest at the Port in Freeport as a result of this freak of nature.
These political hacks play on the emotions of people, and know better.
How pathetic.
But I feel so much better now knowing that NEMA is on high alert though. How about you?
I can see the political hacks favoured Minister of the Environment out there in his tights and cape stopping the next natural disaster, like beach erosion or water spouts etc!
Spare us the political tribalism please. Let's fight the government on things they really can fix or prevent.
Sincerely though, no government could have prevented the accident that took place yesterday and to encourage people that are affected by this trauma in their lives to believe otherwise is a travesty.
The political hacks in our midst should be ashamed of their actions, particularly when there are so may legitimate things the government is doing that they can harp on.
The Grand Bahama Port Authority had the reponsibility for the Met office in Freeport, for it’s own purposes re the Airport and Freeport Harbour, both privately owned in part by them.
The met office information was also publicly available, via phone and through the very public met officer Donna Dumcombe.
While I find it hard to believe the Met office was shut down completely, public access ceased, and Donna Dumcombe is no longer visible, or vocal.
My understanding is that the Government Met office was to take the service over, but until that occurs we the public are referred to the Nassau Met office.
Weather Fronts come through Grand Bahama Frequently, but the severity of this one could be seen for hours beforehand, ( I took extra measures to secure house and boat) so one wonders if the decision making process at the Container port was flawed or absent as these cranes were operating up to the incident.
A tragic and senseless loss of life, which is only made more tragic by the opportunists seeking some personal gain.

As you point out, everyone could see it coming. If I worked there I surely would have gotten out of the way!
I agree with you on this one Wr. Lowe. Mr. Roberts should really take it easy when it comes to these types of issues. Tornadoes are nothing like Hurricanes and next to impossible to prepare for them.. Issues like this should not be used as political footballs.. The opposition should be insisting that the government offers assistance to those persons affected as quick as possible while offering their assistance also..
