Why do we have lawlessness in the Bahamas?

by Jerome Pinder

According to media reports and eyewitnesses, a PLP supporter struck our DPM on the shoulder, as he turned to walk away after trying to calm her down during a confrontation with loyal FNM supporters.

In any other civilized Country in the world, this individual would have been arrested and taken off to jail.  Can you imagine someone hitting the VP of the United States of America?  VP Biden would not have had a chance to tell the Police not to get involved.  Mr. Symonette may have decided not to press charges, but this should have not stopped the police from making an initial arrest on the spot.  It would have least sent an entirely different message to the crowd.

Now what message does this send to the individual responsible, the eyewitnesses, and the Country at large?

I think it is a total disrespect for authority and one more example of the state of lawlessness that we now face as a Country.  (Chief, you can strike a Cabinet Minister if they make you vex, ain't nuttin ga happen)

But as I expected, Mr Symonette took the high road.  Any right thinking Bahamian whose elevator goes all the way to the top will realize this!!

What do you think?

    Absolutely Jerome!
The envelope keeps getting pushed to the detriment of our country.

    You are so right Jerome.
I tip my hat to the DPM for just walking away but that should not have prevented the police from arresting her.
I recall tne incident in the House of Assembly when the speaker ordered Ms. Hanna to leave the room and her colleagues surrounded her preventing the police from doing their duty. That spoke volumes about the lack of civility in certain quarters.

I’m with you Jerome. The police should have made an immediate arrest, then it would have been up to Mr.Symonette,Then again, I do not expect anything more of the police.Unfortunately, in my experience, they are complete imbeciles, led by a complete bag of air.

Look at whats going on with the home Invasions & the capture of this Cole guy.If he did this, just take him out back & shoot him, he does not deserve a trial. We need to rid this country of people like him & you are not going to do it with the courts.I hope he tries to run & the police shoot him dead.I see no other options. How much more can we take ? Enough is enough

I see in the paper today that the police did something right by shooting & killing a robber, sad to say, but I am very happy with the outcome. That is one less punk we need to worry about.I am grateful to the police for that. A friend of mine calls it “acute lead poisoning” .Two thumbs up for the police.
