Bradley Roberts and the PLP. Surely you can offer some solutions for improving The Bahamas?

Rick Lowe

Almost daily, Mr. Bradley Roberts, the recently elected Chairman of the PLP, releases rather bombastic statements to the press about how useless the FNM Government is.

The latest smoke screen is about the Bahamas debt being downgraded and how the FNM have created this monster for the Bahamian people, or some such drivel.

I will agree that the FNM's fiscal policy has been reckless, but the fiscal policy of Mr. Roberts' party was no different.

Successive governments have borrowed and printed money and run deficits as if they were all going out of style.

While I would not deny Mr. Roberts the right to express his thoughts, god knows I express enough of mine, I do not recall reading a single recommendation or policy that the PLP would effect to correct the problems our little country faces.

If you have read any proposed solutions from Mr. Roberts, please leave a comment with the details.

Let's hope that in 2010 politicians give us a little more than rhetoric.

Mr Roberts really annoys me when he starts his attack on the same views and policy that his PLP government that they implemented that was a disaster for the Bahamian people. Just look at the conclusion which is the truth, no slick phrase or words like “prove it”,”I will sue you” ” we will investigate”,”we will form a committee”, “we will bring in foreigners to consult” and “the mp,cabinet minister, ps or director is busy”.
I`am sorry but the majority of the Bahamian people hears these phrases four years after every election, then coming up to the next election you could find all these people for a matter of fact they come looking for you. They would stack up more promises on top of the last election promise that was NOT fulfilled, while their campaign contributers, their company benifit, foriegn investors and theirself benifit greatly from their mismanagement. To cut the long story short, the flip side of that is: the mojority of the Bahamian people are economical SLAVES.
May I start to ask some serious question to Government officials, the Opposition, Cabinet ministers and the Arm Forces:
    (1) What was done and what is being done to stamp out the corruption / extortion and the blue collar crime?
    (2) What was done and what is being done to safe guard small Bahamian business from criminals and other huge business unfair business practices?
    (3) What is being done to minimize or stamp out the human and the importation of goods smuggling?
    (4) What was, and is being done to deal with all complaits made by TOURIST, Hotel management, the U.S. Embassy and the small businesses reference to the BEACH ACTIVITY in the rear of the major hotels?
    (5) What is being done to stop the cruise ship DICTATING and shifting the water sports business from Bahamian small business to there own so call PRIVATE ISLAND where they have and owns all business and activities?
These are just a small number of question to ask the AUTHORITY of this country and they need to give us some real answer and not lip service.
