Potential visitor to Nassau, Bahamas asking for advice

Rick Lowe

We received the following e-mail recently:

"Hello,

"I came across your website and was hoping you could give me some info, as your blog kinda scared the crap out of me. I am going to be visiting The Bahamas specifically Nassau for New Years. I have never been there and am hoping you can give me some tips to help keep the trip safe for me and my friends.

"Thank you"

First of all, thanks for visiting our web site and for choosing The Bahamas for your upcoming holiday.

Having been held up at gun point while on a Toronto Transit Commission bus, it is possible to be impacted by crime where ever we go in the world these days, particularly in these tough economic times.

I've lived here for most of my life, except for six years in Canada, and can say we have a fabulous way of life here. But yes, we have both good and bad.

If you will be staying in a hotel while you are here, ask the concierge for advice or if you're with friends, they should know where you should or should not go.

In other words do some planning, relax and enjoy yourself.

While here, I also recommend you check out the Exuma Cays or one of the other family islands. You won't be disappointed.

I am sure both groups of tourists who were recently terrorized by armed thugs in Nassau had previously asked the concierge at their hotel or cruise ship where they might go for safe sightseeing. The Queen’s Staircase and the Eco-Tour might have been recommended. Both groups got robbed by armed punks anyways. If tourists are not safe at established tourist points, why would they ever want to visit Nassau? Press releases by the government, or the police, proclaiming “new” security measures are getting old.

I think it was the University of Chicago that, some years ago did a study about word of mouth. If something bad happens to you, you tell a whole lot of people, if something good happens, you might tell a few.We are in trouble.

Yes … but know this everyone – as Rick pointed out, there is more good than bad and the objective of a visitors vacation in the Bahamas can very well be attained in relative safety and security.
This country is one of the best rated destinations in the western world …. so to all that want to visit – do so !!!
The ills suffered in the country must be discussed and vented – this blog offers some recourse for the latter to occur…. the passion represented on this blog is what we all – who participate in this arena – hope to be replicated in our communites so as toward the effort of change and policy reform.

    I agree with you.
You should exactly know where is the place to go or should not go.
Otherwise, not only Bahamas the others place also danger too, I think.
