For the third year in a row our main post office (at least that one) closes for the adternon during the summer, because "they are having problems with their air conditioners."
Are we to presume that there is no air conditioning company in the Bahamas that can fix them – if that is so, should they not contract for a company from the US to fix the problem?
Of course they would not be saying this just to get the afternoons off. Bahamians workers would not do such a thing!
Hi Sidney,
Our Freeport Post Office has been hobbled for the year by a lack of A/C, there were news articles early summer, union complaints, promises to look into, and finally, after a couple months, a move to replace. I don’t know if its done yet, but:
We had a 20 ton A/C go down in Late July at work, we had a new one ordered and replaced within 2 weeks.
Most proper A/C technicians won’t work for Government, something about lagging payment, leaving the field wide open for opportunists and political lackeys to make a buck.
Fixing the A/C takes a back seat to the argument about who is going to make the buck.
They just can’t help themselves.
The post office here sucks, even if they are open. thank God for e-mail. It takes me about 2-3 weeks to get local mail, don’t even talk about the family islands.I think they must be drinking or something down there, starting very early in the mornings, just my opinion.
