Let those Bahamians who make and enforce the laws set an example

by Sidney Sweeting, DDS

Before the National Insurance Board (NIB) continues any further with their exercise of harassing individuals and companies they should first require the Prime Minister and the former Prime Minister and members of their cabinets and other members of their governments to show the receipts of their national insurance payments for the past 35 years. Also, all supervisors, inspectors and other employees of NIB should do the same.

Then, and only then, should they feel free to ask the rest of the country to check their attics and storage rooms for their ancient receipts because NIB lost their own copies. Or, is this just another case of "don't do as I do, do as I tell you to do?"

If only that could happen Dr.Sweeting.Not only should it happen, it should be made public, I mean, they are “Public” servants right ?

    Absolutely Dr. Sweeting!
I think it was Abraham Lincoln in the US that said something to the effect that Congressmen/women should have limited terms in office so they have to live and work under the laws they’ve created.
Alas, the bureaucrats here will give the political masters a pass as usual though.

Hi Sidney, I agree, but also stipulate that Civil servants and Government ministers etc should also declare their NIB payments on employees of their “outside” business interests.
Of course, there was a day when Civil servants didn’t have outside business interests, because they were career civil servants.
I suppose if you cannot meet the standards,
    Lower them.
As an aside, I wonder if stamp tax was paid on the crown land property transactions?
Maybe someone in the registrars office may have some crown land too?
Maybe the AG’s office ought to….. never mind, it’ll never be disclosed anyway.

    C. Lowe, I think the AG’s office needs to be investigated.

    Great idea.
    Why stop there?
Before the Customs guy bothers me again, let me make sure government officials themselves pay customs duties.
When I get my driver’s license renewed next month, I’m gonna demand for the PM’s receipt of his driver’s license.
I think BTC and BEC, and W&S have been doing disconnections. So what I’m gonna do is demand to see Zhivargo Lang’s and Julian Francis’ post paid phone bill and Francis’ Vibe record. Dont want them to get away with something I can’t.

    sarcasm…over.
