The Bahamas is planning to do what?

by Sidney Sweeting, DDS

The general consensus in Nassau these days is that Government should remove all traffic lights and make it a free for all at every intersection because it would be better than having flashing lights and not knowing what is showing for the crossing traffic.

More and more people are deciding not to use the services of the Post Office because, as deplorable as the service has been in the past, it is getting even worse. Personally, we have had mail sent to us that has never been received - recently our home delivery of the Tribune was cancelled because we had not received a bill for payment that was due early March (it has still not arrived), we were called at our office and told that our telephone was about to be disconnected for the same reason. We have had countless cases of incoming and outgoing mail never reach its destination. Do they just sort every other bag?

There are so many axle-breaking potholes that it has been suggested that we start a project of planting trees in them so we can at least see where they are.

NIB is now in the process of antagonizing every other person and business on the island because they are being asked to produce records that NIB are unable to find. We have to wonder how far any business would get in an effort to collect a bill from a debtor that was owed from 20 years ago and informing him that he would have to prove that he does not owe it. As the humorist Dave Barry would say "I am not making this up."

Reports from Harbour Island indicate that electricity cuts have become the norm and this blogger is aware of one family that was looking forward to the school break recently and did not have water for 14 days.

Yet, this is the same Government that is apparently on a path to introduce the massive bureaucracy known as a National Health Plan, which would become a National disaster and a National disgrace.

Would someone please tell me that this is a cruel joke. Please!

Dr. Sidney, I could tell you it’s a cruel joke, but I don’t lie to people.
It is all breaking down, which isn’t all bad, if you consider that it could not all continue the way it was forever. Perhaps there will be some people determined enough left who might care enough to rebuild it all from scratch.
The reality is that the rules have been forgotten, the constitution discarded, and the village idiot is in charge.
I see no competency left in just about any direction and recognise an urgent desperation by elected officials to squander any resources left for their own political shine.
Not to mention their apparent quest to apropriate other people’s assets for redistribution to their self inflicted dependants.
They still insist on proving their stupidity in no uncertain terms by failing to efficiently run any existing govermental service.
Sit back, watch the show, keep yourself appraised of the lunacy surrounding you.
    It’s gonna get interesting.
