I have heard nothing but glowing reports about our Immigration Department since it fell under the portfolio of Minister McCartney.

I was shocked however, to see the report in the Tribune this morning of the illegal entry of the home of a Bahamian woman by seven Immigration officers who failed to identify themselves and then proceeded to terrorize Violet Hanna and her seven year old daughter. We have all read and seen films of this type of behavior in Nazi Germany, but the Bahamas!

The victim is to be congratulated for seeking legal counsel and it is to be hoped that she is successful in court, that monetary charges will be brought against the Government and the Government will, in turn, make the ruffians (alias officers) compensate Government or spend enough time in jail to make them and others like them realize this is a civilized country.

Let us hope that Minister McCartney acts quickly on this dastardly act so the rest of us can feel safe in our own homes.
