How racism works
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said I do to?
What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama were a member of the Keating 5?
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.
Here was my response.
Maybe you’re right that this is racism but that’s the way politics works from what I have seen in my lifetime.
Seems the last two elections in the US (and The Bahamas for that matter) were very close. And all those candidates were the same colour.
What do you think?
racism is an excuse for failure..
Where’s the logic; Bahamian politicians of the same color in an election? You’re mixing two concepts that are related but only indirectly. Yes, racism affects all elections, and most things we do. But when you have two Black politicians vying for office, it’s truly weak logic to then say: See there’s no racism, cause both of them are Black.
That’s like seeing two starving children in Africa eating a plate of food once a week and saying; “See there’s no hunger in Africa, cause both of them are eating at this moment”.
Thanks or stopping by.
I think you missed the point Dubious Publius. We were talking about racism causing the polls to be so close and hence a close election because of racism in the US.
Yet we have people here of the same colour and have close elections.
How do you explain the Obama surge in the polls now?
Is that some other “ism”?
