Random Thoughts – political “leaders” in The Bahamas

by Rick Lowe

What are you thinking Mr. Gibson?

Shane Gibson, PLP M.P. has come out in support of the BTC union workers by suggesting they should not be disciplined for their recent actions.

Their recent actions include alleged illegal activity when they blocked Bay Street, our main thoroughfare, with company trucks, and generally created mischief.

This is incredulous! How can a Member of Parliament, who designs laws and their attendant penalties, encourage people to break the law?

To make matters worse, I’m told he made this statement on behalf of the Official Opposition.

Unbelievable!!!

Cuban Eye Programme

Recently it seems our MIniter of Health, Dr. Hubert Minnis has been stricken with a similar virus as Mr. Gibson.

He has been reported as saying the FNM government is reconsidering the so called Cuban Eye programme, where Cuban doctors examine Bahamian patients and transport them to Cuba for treatment.

Does anyone see the irony in this?

People in Cuba are denied rights we take for granted, and our people are being allowed to take advantage of their plight.

Disheartening indeed.

Rick you and I are friends, you may have guessed who I am and then you may not, I like it that way. Even though we have been on opposite sides of the fence for many years and I don’t always agree with what you say and write, I do respect you. You are one of the few white Bahamians that I can discuss party politics with and them not go ballistic.
Now to business at hand. As a P.L.P. voter and supporter, I agree with you 100% on, “what was Shane Gibson thinking when he made the statement in support if the BTC union workers not being disciplined for their actions in blocking Bay Street and the Paradise Island Bridge.” I suspect, he is playing up to the BTC union workers for support and hopefully votes; but that is not the way to show leadership. I know Bahamians in general across the length and breadth of the islands does not support this position and a dangerous game he is playing. I surely hope the Leadership of the Party does not support it and trust he was not speaking on behalf of the Official Opposition.
For once we are on the same page.

    Thanks Don’t.
Still don’t know who you are yet, and that’s okay.
I’m glad we’re on the same page on this one.
Stay safe during the storm if it hits us.
    Rick.

    Hi Rick,
Do you know who I am, yet? Or have you forgotten? All those IP addresses, so long LONG ago!
    Best,
