Abolish crime the Bahamian way

I had the privilege of attending the induction ceremony of our new police commissioner Mr. Reginald Ferguson. He delivered a very eloquent speech and I was particularly happy to hear him say that it was to be his policy of zero tolerance for crime. I had no reason to doubt the sincerity of his promise.

Prime Minister Ingraham was in attendance and I came to the conclusion this week that he misunderstood what the Commissioner was saying because he has announced that he was going to propose that gambling should be taken off the books as an illegal activity because "so many people are doing it."

Now there is a novel approach to crime. One by one we can abolish most crime – just make the popular ones legal.

Apparently, all the traffic violations have already been made legal as well! I have ZERO confidence in our so called Police dept, ZERO! Did I say that loud enough? ZERO! I always thought the longer you did something, the better you got at it, in the case of our Police, I don’t think so. I hope they prove me wrong.
