Should we legalise Marijuana in The Bahamas?

18 Doughty Street does a great job.

The following video is spot on. And they blast the theory that if one smokes marijuana they automatically go onto to stronger drugs like cocaine etc.

I believe that far too many young Bahamians go through life with a criminal record for smoking marijuana when the Police could expend their energy solving more serious crime rather than busting people for smoking pot.

What do you think?

As Peter Tosh would say “Legalize it, don’t criticize it!”
But decriminalizing marijuana is a no brainer. The real question is do you favour – as I do – legalizing all drugs? After all, many anti-drug zealots believe marijuana should be illegal because they see it as a “gateway” to using more “hardcore” drugs….

This is a rare occasion Rick, but I do disagree with you on this one.
I cannot imagine a society where people would be free to get high for every possible reason that they could rationalize.
I would not want patients coming to my office knowing that they were high on pot and neither would you want your mechanics sneaking “a few drags” and then working on a car or an accountant working on your books.
People need professional help, not a “joint”, if they have to be “high” to get through a day.
Just my opinion, for what it is worth.

I understand where you are coming from completely Uncle Sid but I would not anticipate employees would come to work stoned as I would not expect them to come drunk.
I have to ask this question though. Do people who drink casually need professional help?
Sometimes people are arrested for casual pot smoking and this is not right in my view.
It’s a debate that is long overdue.

I have a problem with the little guy with the “Joint” getting arrested while the “Big” boys get nothing, except they are looked up to as being some type of god !
