Sometimes it’s embarrassing to be Bahamian

I know that sounds a little harsh but just think about the Lynden Pindling Airport for a moment.

We have been an independent country since 1973. That’s 34 years and this is the first time in my almost 50 years on the planet that I remember all the baggage carousels working at the same time! All right, permit me a little exaggeration, but you get my drift.

So this is a good thing you say? And I agree. But do you realise we had to lease the airport to those foreign bogeymen to accomplish this heretofore unimaginable feat!

Like I said, sometimes it’s embarrassing.

However, looking on the bright side, I’m sure glad they’re finally working for the sake of our long suffering arriving tourists and Bahamians alike.

It’s embarrassing because every one of us seems content to be embarrassed. We have yet to believe that we are people who are worth enough to make things owned by our government work. We appear interested in investing in the best only when we are planning to welcome visitors. When will we agree to spend our own money to make good things for Bahamians?

    Thanks Nico:
It’s funny, some of us are not content to be embarrassed and we are verbally flogged for it.
Depends what you mean by invest.
I happen to believe that money is not necessarily the answer in many of these problems.
We accept these things as normal and okay.
    Why?

    HI Rick,
All will improve until one of us starts to interfere, and short circuits the “foreigners” who we had to import to run a competent airport.
In any case fixing a baggage carousel is easy. Wait until they try to fix us, then we will hear hue and cry…..
It is similar to hiring “foreign” consultants at exorbitant costs to the public, and ignoring their recomendations repeatedly.
Pick a subject, it matters not.
