Some random thoughts. Quo Vadis Bahamas?

I knew that a space shuttle was scheduled for launch on Friday between 7:30pm and 8:00pm so at 8 I turned on the TV to find out if the launch was successful. CNN was covering the ridiculous saga of Paris HIlton so I went to Headline News and then Fox, CBS and ABC. Absolutely no mention of the space launch. I went to bed at 10:00pm none the wiser about the space launch. Early the next morning I tried again – the same result. We are led to believe that the USA is the leader of the free world. if that is an example of how shallow their thinking is then we should all be frightened.

It was reported in the Press last week that a Magistrate was suspended for "being on the take" and then a couple of days later that a policeman was suspended for the same reason. This is just the tip of a very large iceberg and this blogger plans to return to this later, in depth.

The mother of the six year old girl that was brutally raped was on a radio show telling of how distraught she was that the rapist was sentenced to only seven years with the possibility of parole. Is there any parent who cannot sympathise with her? The Rev. Billy Graham said a few years ago that such a criminal should be castrated. He later apologized for the remark and I have always wondered why.

The death of Jay Damianos is still unsolved. Do we really want to know how many murders in just the past several years are still unsolved? Do we need foreign help or should we presume that a fire at PLP headquarters is more important?

The new Opposition in the House of Assembly have declared that it is their intention to do every thing they can to frustrate the new Government to try and force them to call an early election. What does this say about their concern for the Bahamian people who desperately want to see our country move forward?
