Transparency in Government

by Sidney Sweeting

For more than two years we were promised that the signing of the airport contract was imminent and it was finally signed just before the election.

During the term of the "old" PLP government at least two groups of consultants were hired to study the traffic nightmare on this island and to implement a plan to improve it. Nothing was ever done. Then early in the term of the "new" PLP there was again talk of bringing in yet another group of consultants to do the same thing. In the Guardian of April 7 there was a headline "Plan for new bus system soon".

We all realize that Governments and political parties make empty promises at election time but really, do their actions have to be so transparent?
