Every five years or so the PLP attempt to condemn the FNM as the party of the white man and by extension they somehow exemplify the so called racist policies of the UBP, a political party that has been defunct for over 30 years now.
It is reminiscent of when the circus comes to town in larger cities in the world.
With the circus, the clowns and other acts move on as things change or they are replaced by more talented performers. Oddly enough this does not happen with the PLP. The same acts appear to the same old tired music, time and time again.
If you don’t realise it, the five year interval conveniently works out to be each election. Yet, after each poll the PLP attempt to “curry favour” with the so called racist white community. They claim to want their support on government committees and to donate to charitable causes and of course support the PLP party.
And so, as it gets closer to the tolling of the bell for the start of the election campaigns, we can expect more of the same worn out rhetoric from a political party that cannot seem to extract itself from the past.
Oh, this is not to deny that blacks were treated badly in the 1960’s and before, but governments should be helping us heal wounds, not continue to pick the scab before it heals.
But that’s just it, the PLP’s racism is one of convenience. They don’t want a true reconciliation because they think that will hurt their chances at the polls.
Unfortunately their rhetoric only causes people to use the spectre of racism from more than 30 years ago “as an excuse for their failings” “rather than a source of inspiration for their success”, to borrow a phrase from one of the PLP’s cast when speaking about slavery recently.
How pathetic.
