Yesterday afternoon/evening Lampkin and Company, a local insurance broker, hosted a symposium that was really a presentation by the NHI team on NHI that left one with more questions than answers.
In spite of a gallant effort by Mrs. Lampkin and her staff to get answers for their clients, the NHI team presented very little new information.
One thing they finally said was that the NHI tax is not for a comprehensive plan. This is a great step toward finally presenting the truth about this “cradle to grave” scheme that Dr. B.J. Nottage, Senator and Minister of Health, has been boasting about.
They also noted throughout their presentation, and the question and answer period, that they were still gathering information and data. As anyone that has been following this theoretical concept for the past couple years knows, the premium has been set since the outset of the public presentations. So one is left to wonder how the data they’re collecting will impact the premiums, or the costs associated with this scheme?
It was also interesting to note that the insurers present advised that they did not have enough information from NHI to advise what impact it would have on their premiums or businesses, or what supplemental policies they need to offer. The whole reason for the symposium I might add!
So sit tight for more revelations as this process, that is still in theoretical form, advances, and the reality of trying to fit the political rhetoric into a workable concept begins to hit home with the bureaucrats at NHI.
By the way, I wonder what will happen if the income is higher than anticipated the first couple years after the scheme is implemented?
