UN calls for end to US embargo against Cuba

By Rick Lowe

It was no surprise to read that the UN General Assembly has called for the US to drop its 46 year old economic embargo against Cuba.

While I think the embargo should be dropped after all these years, the promise to drop the embargo should be based on Cuba’s reciprocal commitment to free her people.

You might also want to spend a few minutes reading UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights by clicking here to see if the Cuban Revolution delivered these “rights” for the Cuban people.

Am I mistaken in my belief that the ideologues at the UN and around the world have different standards for a dictator like Castro compared to a dictator like Pinochet?

I agree with you that the US should have lifted its embargo against Cuba long ago. However, I do not agree with the quid pro quo you proffer. After all, it’s undeniable that the Cuban people have suffered far more privation because of this embargo than they have because of Castro’s leadership.
And you’re right, moral relativism governs the way not only the UN but also the US and every other country in the World conducts its affairs.
But I have no difficulty issuing moral condemnations case by case….
