Another tragedy struck the Top of the Hill Plaza on Mackey Street yesterday (Saturday, July 29, 2006).
A friend, known to us as “The North Pole Photographer” sent these shots taken earlier today (Sunday, July 30, 2006.
When set backs hit businesses like this so many people are effected. From the owners and their families and the employees and their families.
Looks like the fire department did a great job with saving the remainder of the plaza that had burnt in the last fire several years ago.
This blogger wishes them all the best of luck in recovering as quickly as possible.

I must say I’m intrigued…. annoyed, rather, at the criticism that has been launched at the fire department…. i’m pretty sure the only ones among(st?) us who actually know anything about fighting fires were in uniform risking their lives this weekend. We should thank them for containing the blaze so more of Mackey Street or surrounding areas weren’t affected. Having said this, though, I was really concerned that in order to do their job, they had to run hoses down mackey street, across heavily trafficked shirley and east bay streets into the harbour…. do we have 3.5 miles worth of hose? since the island’s 7 miles wide, what do they do if a major blaze breaks out in the middle of the island? frightening thought
