Dear Rick

I apologize for the three e-mails. I don’t know what could have happened.

I don’t think I have ever said Cuba is a perfect country. No country is. If you read the letter sent to the Editor, I said that.

It is interesting what you are saying on elections and vote. But as I always say, there is a need to know more about Cuba.

I wish persons also speak this way about the Embargo on Cuba.

I wonder why some persons are only interested in the so called “freedom of expression” and “free elections”. They don’t see anything else.I wish I could have proof that those “free” things in the US and other countries are really “free”. Remember I was there for 5 years and I have seen many, many things.

Sir, There is a lot to talk about these subjects and honestly speaking, I don’t have time now to do so.

Regards

Félix Wilson
Ambassador of Cuba. The Bahamas

Thanks Felix:
I have said on many occasions that the US embargo is not a good idea and should be lifted.
I also read where you said Cuba is not perfect, but Cuba should free it’s people from the Castro Regime and not worry about the embargo. That is only a cover for bad economic policy by the Cuban government.
I have visited Cuba and lived in Canada and yes there are things about “free” countries that I do not like, like excessive government power. However, I can say that and not worry about the residential police taking me away.
I realise you are a busy man, and so am I, but until Castro changes the economic system in Cuba his and your countrymen will continue to suffer, while you guys live in relative affluence.
See my blog I sent earlier today after reading your latest e-mail. http://www.weblogbahamas.com
All the best,
Rick.

Judging from the last response from the Ambassador, the discussion is over.

What do you think?

Hi Rick, Living in freeport is a little isolationist with regard to this new found love of Cuba, but it does worry me.
Anyone who is an apologist for Cuban policy towards its people could never apologise enough.
But I can well imagine our political elite envying the power and arbitrary control aspects of life there. Whatever happened to the harsh realities of portions of the world being accepted as true?
Denial is the biggest obstacle to solving any problem, especially Cuba’s.

I think you are right Chris and I must admit to privately worrying about that.
