Andrew Allen weighed in today on the Cuba debate in his column in The Tribune and in a nutshell says that Castro is justified in enslaving the people of that island because the U.S. has not treated war prisoners fairly.

Mr. Allen is well read and well travelled, but this is absolute balderdash! To compare the two does not pass the muster of reasonable debate.
It is not unreasonable to be anti-American if he chooses, that is the democratic way. But let a Cuban try being anti-Castro in his own country.
Sometimes people confuse themselves with their own misguided views. I think Mr. Allen has done this to himself this time around.

I myself find it very interesting how we are convincing ourselves that behaviour individually and nationally considered abohrent and deviant afew years ago is perfectly acceptable today. To me it indicates the decline of civilization as we know it.
Still, extreme to be sure, Hitler did convince the German people that jews were the root of all their problems, and that their persecution was justified.
We have some very intelligent Bahamians putting forth their views, but are they tempered by conventional wisdom?
Are they so specialized in their training that they have no common sense?
I cannot make heads or tails of this affinity for Cuba.

I am honestly surprised how Andrew portrays the US in this debate. The contrasts between the two countries are astounding.
Of course the US is not perfect, but compared to Cuba? Come on Andrew!
Although the trade embargo should be dropped, Castro refuses to see the benefits of capitalism so his people suffer.
but the thing is Mr. Lowe, when the embargo is lifted…who will suffer…this is the thing that “perceived” smart Bahamian tend to neglect…what does Cuba without an embargo mean for The Bahamas and its people? Do you honestly think a Cuban will stand up and speak for us at a UN General Assembly Meeting? It fathoms me how “all knowing” Bahamians cant see this or choose not to.
