Where are you headed Bahamas?

by Rick Lowe

We were discussing the state of things in Nassau last night and one of the group suggested that we are on a slide that will continue unabated.

It was suggested that this is was a very pessimistic view but she went further, suggesting we look at the regression of Haiti, Jamaica and now The Bahamas over the past 25 years.

Framed in that context it is scary. But what contributes to the malaise and how can we stop the slide?

We have a couple thoughts on this subject but wondered what you readers might be thinking.

Please add a comment for consideration.

At a carribean conference on crime
late 70’s early 80’s our police commisioner was warned by his jamaican counterpart that the crime they were experiencing would creep into the Bahamas, therefore do something about it now. A friendly warning from a friend.
    Nothing was done.
Reactionary, not proactive, always in damage control, or spin.
Yes the slide will continue, in fact it is accelerating.
    And we will react slowly.
Sad really, as we have so much talent and potential.
