Comments on Do Politicians Use The Church?

A reader responds:

Ah, how history repeats itself! Look back 300-800 years ago and see the problems and misery right wing religion mixed with power have caused. These very "colonies" and even the U.S. were populated by European escapees of religious persecutionists. One aspect that strikes with irony is the fact that almost all "modern" Christian denominations were formed by spin offs of Anglican or Roman Catholic dissention groups that were tired of the authority and hypocracy of the "established" church.

An effort was made to avoid the Pomp and "popery". God above, all mankind equal in his eyes.

Today, we rush headlong back to the classic structure of Priest, Bishop, gowns, icons etc. Soon a Bahamian Cardinal, maybe Pope! (outside of the catholic faith however)

In the words of Confucious:
"Those who ignore the past, cannot devine the future" and I will add, are doomed to repeat it.
