Bahamas Government Out of Touch With The People!

Jerome Pinder

The Tribune reported today on a non-scientific poll conducted by the Worker's Party on whom participants would vote for as Leader (Perry Christie or Hubert Ingraham) if an election were held today.

What is not so surprising about this poll, is that it matches the everyday comments you here from individuals with regards to the Government, Opposition and Politicians in General. Perception they say is reality, and it would appear from perception that the current Government, a once Government of the Sunshine and of the People, has lost touch with the electorate.

Never before have I heard so many people say that they have lost their desire to go out and vote.

Quite frankly, the FNM must be holding a lot of ammo in their chest for election time, because if their performance continues as is, I expect many loyal supporters to stay home on election day. Victory may not be so easy, they did not win with a land slide the last time.

While the PLP have not proven to offer anything better, I would remind both Parties that the Bahamian People love power and come election day the FNM will be voted out for what they have not done, regardless of whether there is a better alternative.

  • When last have we had a national update from the PM?
  • Have we given up on privatizing BTC? What about declining revenues and the effect on its value?
  • Will Down Town ever be clean?
  • Crime???  Can the Committee on the Prerogative Of Mercy only meet once a month, quarter, or year? Government is not even close to being serious on crime!! Forget about asking for the Bail Act to be amended. Surely they cannot expect for one meeting and one attempt to sign a death warrant to satisfy the Bahamian People?
  • What about the Cabinet Shuffle that we have been waiting on since July and now expected by the end of October?  We all know that some serious changes are needed.

Government, get back in touch with the people that put you in power!!

I write based on what I am hearing daily, and most people feel that both Parties are like ships with torn sails and no rudders.

Torn sails, lost rudders, forgot where they were going in the first place, and they are taking on water.
    did I mention hull rot?
To vote in the Bahamas means very little anymore, as neither party represents the countries best interests, both do their fair share of personal pilllaging
No one steps on a Bahamian like a Bahamian, and any foreigner that craps on Bahamians only does so with Bahamian political permission.
We need some serious talent to step up to the plate, not the enourmous “chip on shoulder” personalities we now suffer.

The only thing it means to vote these days is to get your name on a jury list.

C Lowe – maybe some of the bright minds that left the country for residence in Industrialized nations need to return home – or an amendment to the constitution that would grant dual citizenship fro these folk as a means to their participation in the governance and strategic planning for the nation … what do you think?
