The Bahamas slow decay

Sometimes our comments deserve to be posts on their own. This is one of them.

In the Bahamas both political parties support the same thing, bigger government and greater control over the people.

Both political parties seek to gain greater political power through higher taxes, more debt and higher deficits and increased laws and regulations overseen by incompetent bureaucracies.

We are quickly reaching the stage were the average Bahamian can not afford to support himself or his family with the basic necessities of life.

We are witnessing the destruction of the once growing middle class as what little wealth is created is being concentrated in the bureaucratic and political ruling class.

This is a process of social destruction where we and future generations of Bahamians are being trapped under an economic collapse orchestrated by our democratically elected government.

We have no one to blame but ourselves for in the end our political system and structure locks in the political power of the elitist class.

The real issue today for Bahamians is how can we escape from the economic mess our politicians have got us into??

The answer perhaps is found in two words "courage" and "conviction" which seem to be lacking in our Bahamian character.

If our leadership can develop prudent conviction and have the necessary courage to fundamentally change the direction in which the economy is going, then there is hope for constructive and positive change.

We know what must be done but will we do it in our National Interest??

Lets hope so, for there is so little time left.

    Courage and conviction, largely absent.
I’ve always believed that those who can should.
I do not mean railing on the soapbox or spouting off with no brain engaged,
I mean accurate, researched, well thought out approaches to issues affecting us all.
    Government treachery.
    Judicial failure.
    Nepotism in politics.
    Crime.
National Fiscal manslaughter. (not suicide, They’ll be alright, having pillaged for their nest eggs)
    Oh well.

Again we see the old conflict between Theory and Practice.. Democracy in theory is an ideal system of governance, but in practice has been a failure as what starts out to be representative government always seems to end up in authoritarian rule and tyranny.. For in the end, “might makes right” and “power corrupts” are the governing principles of our age..

    Yep, Democracy by another name,
    Mob Rules.
It is actually a “fair” mechanism used for Voting yea or nay,
    But is it really?
That the Crack heads vote counts as much as mine…..
or the recipient of welfare income greater than my own vote vs my self generated income vote?
All of these ideals are failed by people.
Just as our system of Governance has been failed by us.
Like a 2 year old driving then crashing a car….
    Did the car fail?
Likely some parent will sue, claiming the car maker failed to prevent a 2 year old from driving off in it.
We have failed and undermined the system that best preserves our individual safety and productivity, and protects us from each other!
Constitution rule of law observed by all.
And I mean all, no matter their position, elected or appointed.

Again Oracle, the real crisis the Bahamas faces is the complete void of leadership with conviction and courage..
If the truth be told, our present political leadership know and even understand what the problems are that confront our country.. They even may have some idea of what are workable solutions that could create a new foundation for change.. What is missing, however, is the conviction to put forward such change and the unflinching courage to carry out the implementation of such change.. To do this, the National Interest of the nation must come first before petty party and self interests..
The question then arises where will such potential enlightened leadership come from or will it just emerge out of no where?? This is the root of our problem where our political structure concentrates financial power in our political parties and establishes a unyielding hierarchy of control which greatly limits participation and constructive thought.. This is why we have the leadership we do and why the nation is on the verge of a financial crisis.. This is why we continue to pursue failed fiscal policies that will be destructive to the future of the Bahamian economy.. Again we have the result a leadership void of conviction and courage.. So be it for that is what we are and for now will always be.. May God’s grace be with the Bahamian people and our leadership as well..
